LtGen Hamel’s career in government and industry spans over 45 years of national security space experience and leadership, in a variety of strategy, policy, planning, development, and operations positions.  He is currently an independent consultant and board member supporting USG space efforts.  He retired from industry in 2018 as Vice President and General Manager for Commercial Space with Lockheed Martin; prior to that he served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Relations with Orbital Sciences Corporation.

Gen Hamel retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2008 as the Commander, Space and Missile Systems Center and AF Program Executive Officer for Space in Los Angeles, CA. Prior to that assignment, he was the Commander of 14th Air Force with responsibility for all AF space operations.  He served in a variety of space commands, program offices and staff assignments across his 36 year career, including as the Military Advisor to the Vice President.  Gen Hamel is a graduate of the U.S. AF Academy and other academic and military professional programs.
