Patti Grace Smith Fellowship
Hailu Daniel is a recent graduate from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a degree in aerospace engineering. He was a recipient of the Patti Grace Smith Fellowship in 2021 and the Matthew Isakowitz Fellowship in 2023. He was also selected as a Young Professional Lightning Talk Speaker for SGx 2023, sharing his journey through the aerospace industry and spreading awareness about the aerospace fellowships to students/professionals.
During his time in college, Hailu competed in the Spaceport America Cup, attended NSBE and SEDS national conferences, and volunteered his time as a mentor for the aerospace fellowships. In 2023, Hailu attended the Congressional Space Medal of Honor at the White House, where himself and other students received acknowledgement from the 49th Vice President of the United States.
He strives to use his platform and experience to inspire others and mentor the next generation. His dream is to one day become the first Ethiopian-American Astronaut.
