Pier Michele Roviera is a seasoned aerospace executive with over 30 years of experience in space systems, international project management, and operations. He holds a Master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino in Italy and completed his thesis at ISAE-Sup’Aero in Toulouse, France, as part of the EU Erasmus Program.

Pier Michele served as a Technical Officer in the Italian Navy before joining Arianespace (now part of ArianeGroup) in the Operations Directorate at Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. He later moved to the European Space Agency (ESA), where he held senior engineering and management roles within the Space Transportation Directorate. Starting in 2014, he served as Senior Advisor for Space Transportation Systems at ESA’s Washington, D.C. office.

In 2018, he transitioned to the “New Space” sector with Virgin Orbit as Senior Principal Engineer – Operations, playing a key role in the company’s first successful orbital mission. He later joined Blue Origin as Senior Director of New Glenn Upper Stage Fluid Systems.

Since April 2024, Pier Michele has been the President of the Space Solutions Business Unit at Safran Defense and Space Inc., leading efforts to support U.S. government and commercial customers. His leadership focuses on enhancing the security and resilience of the U.S. aerospace supply chain through Safran’s extensive portfolio of space products and services, including satellite ground systems, electric propulsion, onboard communications, space optics, atomic clocks, and space & ground domain awareness

Pier Michele is a Senior Member of the AIAA, actively contributing to two Technical Committees, and is a member of the IAF Space Transportation Committee. He also serves as an advisor to the Georgetown University Space Initiative.
