SPACE SYMPOSIUM SPEAKERS
Jeff Carr
President
Griffin Communications Group
Jeff is a senior marketing and strategic communications executive with more than 43 years of leadership experience serving NASA, commercial human spaceflight, aerospace corporations and industry coalitions. With over 32 years in executive roles, he has advised senior government officials, CEOs and boards at pivotal moments in U.S. space history — including national crises, major program transitions and the emergence of commercial spaceflight.
He is the President of Griffin Communications Group, where he helped build and lead a new aerospace practice serving diverse space organizations including Virgin Galactic, Blue Origin, Sierra Nevada Corporation, Boeing, Orbital Sciences Corporation and the ISS National Lab. He has provided executive counsel in brand positioning, crisis communications, product rollouts, media strategy and stakeholder engagement for both commercial and government clients.
Prior to Griffin, Jeff spent 13 years as Director of Communications and Public Relations for United Space Alliance, NASA’s primary Space Shuttle contractor. Reporting directly to the President and CEO, he led all aspects of corporate communications, public affairs, government relations and crisis readiness. Following the Columbia accident, he partnered with the Space Foundation to establish the Coalition for Space Exploration, helping restore public and political support for NASA and continuation of the International Space Station.
Jeff began his career at NASA’s Johnson Space Center as a NASA Television technical director and mission producer, training astronauts for live broadcasts. He later rose to Director of Public Affairs, leading a team of nearly 90 civil servants and contractors. He also served in Washington, D.C. as Special Assistant to the NASA Administrator, providing speechwriting, press and transition support during the early Clinton administration.
He has received the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal, multiple NASA Group Achievement Awards, and the RNASA Space Communicator Award. He serves on the Board of Advisors for the Rotary National Awards for Space Achievement and previously served on the Sci-Art Exchange Board of Directors.
Raised in Houston during the Gemini, Apollo and Skylab era, Jeff is the son of astronaut Gerald P. Carr, commander of NASA’s final Skylab mission.
