
Kevin “Morty” Mortensen
Vice President, Customer Advocacy and Mission Expansion

Mr. Mortensen joined BAE Systems, Inc., in July 2017 and is currently Vice President, Customer Advocacy and Mission Expansion. In this role, he is a relentless customer advocate within BAE Systems. Prior to this position, Mr. Mortensen was Vice President, Space and Cyber Initiative, where he engaged with customers across the Air Force on capabilities required to meet emerging threats and mission needs. In addition, Mr. Mortensen also previously served as Vice President, Business Development, Strategy and Growth for Air and Space Force Solutions business area. Furthermore, he was previously the Vice President, International Marketing and Strategic Communications with the Swedish Space Corporation.
Mr. Mortensen is a retired U.S. Air Force Officer, having served 29+ years in a variety of leadership roles, including Director of Schriever Wargame 2012 Operational Assessment where he directed 285 interagency/coalition players from 25+ organizations. He was Senior Crew Missile Combat Crew Commander and was the recipient of the 2001 AFA General Thomas S. Power Outstanding Missile Crew of the Year, recognizing his ICBM Crew as the 2001 Most Outstanding Missile Combat Crew in the Air Force. Mr. Mortensen was also an Air Force Intern in 2002-2003, working in Air Force Contracting and the Joint Staff, receiving mentoring from Air Force, Joint Staff, and interagency partners. Mr. Mortensen was a 4-Star Speechwriter, as well as Aide-de-Camp to two Air Force Space Command Commanders. Mr. Mortensen was Chief of ICBM, Space and Cyberspace Legislative Affairs Program for four years, where he liaison between Congress and the Air Force for annual authorization for all Intercontinental Ballistic Missile, Space, and Cyberspace programs. In this position, he engaged with Congressional Members and Professional Staff Members that led to the stand-up of Headquarters Air Force Global Strike Command. In addition, he Commanded the 3d Space Operations Squadron where he led 120+ military/civilian/contractor team conducting 24/7 operations for 12 Department of Defense Communication satellites worth $3.9B.
Mr. Mortensen currently serves on the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) National Board of Directors. He is also President of the NDIA Rocky Mountain Chapter, and Past Chair of the NDIA Space Division. Mr. Mortensen is a Member of the National Space Club and Foundation’s Board of Directors and is Chair of the National Space Club and Foundation’s Finance Committee.
Mr. Mortensen holds a B.S. degree in Organizational Management from Colorado Christian University, a M.S. degree in Management from Lesley College, and a post graduate certificate in Organizational Management from George Washington University. Mr. Mortensen also attended the Delivering Business Growth course from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.
