Sean is a Principal at PwC where he has two distinct roles in the office of the Chairman and Global Cybersecurity and Privacy Leader.
Sean is a trusted advisor to many boards and senior leadership teams, specializing in navigating the complexities of digital transformations, regulation, and the dynamic risk environment. With a deep understanding of cyber risks and threats, he provides strategic guidance in governance and cybersecurity risk oversight and how to leverage cybersecurity and resilience as strategic business enablers. Sean has been consulted by CEOs and boards on some of the most prolific cyber breaches and has worked with clients across industries on regulatory response, investigative support, incident breach response and served as a senior advisor on cybersecurity. Sean previously led the US and Global Financial Crimes Unit for PwC and focused on the interplay between cybersecurity, anti-money laundering and sanctions, fraud, and anti-bribery/anti-corruption.
Prior to rejoining PwC, Sean was the Chief Trust Officer at Airbnb where he led a diverse team of Design Specialists, Product Managers, Engineers, and Data Scientists, driving the growth and protection of the Airbnb platform. In his role and as a member of the Airbnb Executive Committee, he was responsible for overseeing privacy and community policy and maintaining trust and safety within the Airbnb community.
Sean also served as the Deputy Director with the FBI, and had daily oversight of the 36,000 men and women and its $8 billion annual budget. With more than 26 years of service in the FBI, Sean brought a wide range of operational and leadership experience. He played a pivotal role in transforming the FBI into an intelligence-driven organization, and spearheaded several strategic initiatives, including ‘next generation cyber’, which was a cross-organizational initiative to maintain the FBI’s world leadership in law enforcement and domestic intelligence. Sean established a comprehensive framework to operate and evaluate the FBI’s 56 domestic field offices, further enhancing the Bureau’s effectiveness in accomplishing its mission.
Sean was the 2013 recipient of the Director of National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, the CIA Director’s Award, the DIA’s Director’s Award, and the FBI Meritorious Medal. In 2011, he received the Presidential Rank Award.
Sean is a member of the Aspen Digital US Cybersecurity Group and serves on a number of boards. A Brockton, MA native, Sean holds degrees from Boston College and Dartmouth’s Amos Tuck School Business.
