Mr. Narayanan Appu did his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering at College of Engineering, Guindy, Chennai in India. He joined Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1989 at Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, Mahendragiri (presently ISRO Propulsion Complex). He specialized in cryogenic process engineering related to rocket propulsion test and evaluation. He has played crucial role in design, engineering, establishment, operation and maintenance of test facilities for cryogenic and semi-cryogenic propulsion systems for ISRO’s launch vehicle program. He is a Distinguished Scientist and currently functions as Associate Director of ISRO Propulsion Complex. He was awarded with Space Gold Medal in 2002 by Astronautical Society of India in recognition of his outstanding contribution to propulsion-system testing. He also received ISRO Team excellence award in 2016 for CE20 cryogenic engine development and ISRO Individual merit award in 2017.
